A warm wind arrives, and Minor Heat follows. Today marks Xiaoshu, or Minor Heat, one of the 24 solar terms on the traditional Chinese calendar.

With Minor Heat, high summer officially begins. Temperatures climb steadily and rainfall increases, and everything grows freely. Plants and trees grow thick, cicadas call everywhere, and the full feel of summer sets in. There is an old saying that Minor Heat and Major Heat mean being steamed from above and boiled from below, and the heat and humidity keep building from here.

In this heat, it helps to slow down and stay cool. Find a quiet, shaded spot and take the season at an easier pace. Keep meals light to beat the heat, with more fruit and vegetables and less cold food, for a steady, settled summer.

Summer days are long, and good things keep building. Wishing everyone a calm heart through the heat of summer and time well spent in its best moments.
